Good idea to toss it. If it was genetic, it looked like it wasn't going to improve. The reason I think it's genetic is because it was that way from the beginning and nothing else is affected. I've had plants like that that did not grow out of it.

The ants I deal with love sugar. Whenever they get too large in #'s outside and start wanting to enter the house I thin them out with, 3 parts powder sugar, 1 part borax enough water to create a gel and a speck of grape jelly. Put it where they trail. Has worked for years.

They might work better if you can get them in yellow. Yellow attracts gnats, blue attracts mosquitos.
