Strategically placed water barrels can help.I've done it but with midland results............I do much better with greens in the tent than anything that bears a fruit.

Snatched these yesterday............the smaller ones are all in the dryer. Big ones, all heirlooms are now salsa, best slices got a touch of sea salt and slurped down instantly.

Those cherry tomatoes look yummy! I've been wondering where my tomatoes have been going and it looks like the deer have been reaching over the fence and plucking them off. There's no damage to the plants, but I saw two green tomatoes with bite marks on the ground in the middle of the garden, so I'm assuming they dropped those and couldn't reach them.

You sure that's deer damage? They don't eat tomatoes here but nobody tells the yearlings, so they sample the shit out of everything to decide for themselves. Actually good if it was deer cause they won't be back.......squirrels, coons, etc...are repeat customers.
There is only one cherry tomato at the bottom of that bowl..........they are a tomato called Principe Borghese. it's supposed to be the de-facto numero uno, tomato for dying.
However,
1)The whole vine is supposed to turn at once.................did not happen, not even close
2) Low juice..............they are juicy
3) Few seeds...............loaded with seeds
Oh well, I guess seed hype is unavoidable
That bowl made 1 pint plus dried tomatoes. That's good. I dried some of the heirlooms too and they are just as good as the principes.

German Johnsons are the bigger ones in that picture, then I have Cherokee purples, Mark Twains and Prudents Purple. The prudents is gonna take the prize this year for size. Just brought in a 1 lb'er. Really nice plants with big fruit.
Deer is the only think I can think of that could reach them. We've had woodchucks in my yard before, so it's possible one got in there...I'll have to check the netting I have down low to see if anything breached it. We've had some rats lately, too...do you think maybe them fuckers are climbing the plants and dropping them? I've only seen a few, but usually near the bird feeder, and we found one dead one in the barn from the RatX we've been placing around the barn and house.

Brings back memories. I used to stay in an apartment and didn't have space for my veggies. When I filled the balcony I converted my spare bedroom into a garden. Tomatoes did OK but peppers thrived. Gonna see if I can find some old pics. Imagine that first conversation with management lol. Just glad I wasn't growing bud then.(at least not there lol) Good times

Dunno if it would work for rats (bet it would) but the DIY 5 gallon bucket mouse traps work really well. Too many good critters around here to use poisons.
We used a 1 quart fert bottle drilled out with an old curtain rod.....and one of those produce mesh sacks for the "ladder". Lotsa stuff will work.
Climb...walk the plank...spin...plop....dead.

Ah my favourite, the old walking the plank trick and yeah it’ll work with rats . I wiped a whole family out camping in my roof in one day . Noisy bastards if they’re tracking around above your head all night. Poison in the roof was not a good idea when a couple weeks later maggots start crawling through your light fittings on the ceiling spawned from a festering rat in the roof cavity

RatX isn’t a poison and it only kills rats and mice. It’s
It’s a slower death than the old water bucket but it gets more of them. Even though it is safe for other wildlife we only put the RatX in our barn and the basement of the house.

Gotcha. Like @Ozjet68 .....still don't want dead ones crawlin back into the wall/etc. to die and stink......thus...the bucket.
What I need is for Mr. 5 foot long Bull snake to make a return visit. Haven't seen but one all year but that doesn't mean they aren't there.
We don't feed our snake (Desert Rosy Boa) wild mice for a myriad of reasons...or he'd be really fat..... thus...the bucket.

The only thing I hate about the bucket is that it doesn’t take long for them to bloat and stink to high heaven. At my place they usually go off into the brush or under the barn to die and I don’t smell them either way.

It's right outside the back door......so I check it when I get up every AM. If anyone decides to play....they don't linger too long here in the drink, Nothing in there this AM. We may be getting there....for now. Definitely a constant battle when ya live in the woods (or a farm).

Gotta ease up champ and remember there’s good bugs as well . I get it though Aphids give me the shits big time . Cabbage moths much easier to napalm

Had to google your snake as I’d never heard of it. Pretty cool looking little snake. All our snakes besides a few pythons try to kill you . Thankfully I only cross paths with them occasionally . Our critters don’t try and eat you, they just want to poison your ass .
