In MA you pay state and township taxes if I am not mistaken. Along with extremely high taxes on everything else. Where does it go and why do you keep electing democrats?

For what it's worth I have lived all over the country, and had an EZPass - and the shittiest roads I ever drove on were toll roads.

I've lived in NY, MA, & CA. When I bitch about these things I am speaking from experience. I chose to retire in a free state based on that experience.

There are no "township taxes" that I'm aware of. The only taxes that individual towns/cities can add to sales tax that I am aware of is at cannabis dispensaries. They may be able to do something similar, with liquor sales, but I honestly don't know if they can or not.

We have no vehicle inspections.
Our "ad velorum" tax for cars is with the annual registration, and based on the age of the vehicle - and for older cars is next to nothing.

The MA vehicle inspection system has become even more of a scam than it was before. Now, if your car has a code flagged, they don't even bother with an emissions test, they just give you a rejection sticker and tell you you have to get it fixed. I just got a rejection sticker because my air intake sensor is acting flaky. It doesn't affect the emissions at all, so I'm going to ride out the reject sticker until it expires next year, and then I'll do something about it.

I was going to leave this thread to avoid the political drama, but then I'd be just as bad as Captain Diarrhea, by putting my earmuffs and blinders on.

This thread has a lot of humor in it, and people here are at least not being extremely nasty to one another, like over at RIU, so I've actually enjoyed being a part of it. Most of the jabs here are just light heated jabs, and I think most of them have been more in fun than people here actually being nasty.

I post a lot right now, because I am a programmer who sits at a computer form 8-6 every day, and work has been slow from the pandemic. It's starting to pick back up, though, so my posts/day will drop substantially once I (hopefully )get slammed with work again. I'm working on 3 new contracts now, though, so I'm hoping I will be up to my eyeballs in work by mid August forward🤞.

If you move to some areas of Newfoundland Canada there is zero property tax. My Dad owns 500 acres of tax free land there.

It aint worth shit. But its pretty if you like 2 months of summer 4 months of rain and 6 months of the shittiest winter ever.

But its cheap...they pay 200 a year for garbage pickup and so much a year for road maintenance for the town. Everything outside of the town is covered by the provincial taxes (highway maintenance etc).

The price is too high to live for free there and the power interruptions really screw up an indoor garden...i will stay here.

But there is a place.
