I have dreams of washing or sifting all my harvest trim and pressing a "harvest hash blend".

Plus it makes it easy store.
I tried the Frenchy route. I just don't love hash enough to put that much work into it. I now have an 8g washing machine out in the shed, and some bubble bags all sealed up nice in case I ever want to pull them out again.

I got the aluminum frame dry sift silk screens and they are the bomb. Knowing what I do now about pressing it I don't have to be as careful about it getting too dry and getting too much broken vegetable matter in the kief. You can always re-sift it, but a little being in there is not going to hurt at all for pressing.

I don't mind getting real high and tackling a sack of older nugs for dry sift, then squishing that, rather than suishing those same old nugs and getting nothing in return. So far though Sangria Cookies, Lemon Tree, and a few other sticky-ass grinder-fuckers that don't smoke well in a joint because they resin up and clog - THOSE are the ones I plan on dabbing. The rest like you said is easy storage - with a lot less work that hash.

All strains act differently at different temps and pressures. Usually the lower the temp the more terpenes are perserved but lower yield. Higher temp more yield but quality usually goes down. Taste and smooth/harshness.

Usually i try and press at the lowest temp possible and then switch out parchment paper and press at subsequently higher temps until the puck is dry looking.
That second pressing makes me want to smack myself in the head. DUH!!! 😜 I was looking at the oil on the edges of those bags and thinking everclear wash.

If you press with micron bags you'll need to press more flower at once in order to get a decent return because the bag will soak some up.
I saw that too. After pressing a few loose nugs I don't think I'll be pressing much flower in bags. I'm really small scale.

As far as collection goes after the press, well that's an experiment with each strain. Big learning curve. Usually 20-25% is concerned a good return for flower. 50% and up for pressing hash. At least that's what i remember off the top of my head at the moment.
Good to know. Based on weighing those nug-wafers I got just under and just over 20% so that's not bad for the first try.
Answered each one separate - thanks for your help!

One down one to go, Another town and one more show. Step Child are going away and they never came back.

Getting some scattered brown pistils on most so dropping the beginnings of the chuck in a week should be fine.
I am thinking that running 12/12 from seed the tallest plants should be about a foot and a half or so before they show sex.

I've been too stingy with cover crop seeds trying to grow veggies. Need to start planting more then culling if needed.
Lemon Cello is a shrub! I snipped any main fan leaves that were in the way, but there are no limbs that need pruned. It's dense top to bottom.
The God's Paintbrush lower right is going to be first out. Probably 50% brown pistils already.

I need to mess with the ChemD, she's looked stellar from day one. The top can be taken now, but I'd like to see if my new method works before jamming into that. I'm keeping a mom so eventually it'll be a clone in a solo cup that I need. The Chemdog has also taken off, but it's not clonable yet except maybe the top. IMG_2998.JPG

I have two CLHP I planted a month ago. I planned to seed one and keep the other to put in flower after the pollen is done. I think with it being ashort flowering plant I'll do the opposite and flower one out now and seed the other. The Stones are looking like they need to flip too. I need to remember I'm keeping them in 5g pots and stop worrying about the pollen - what happens will happen, butI should be able to contain most of the pollen in the one room.

I flipped the taller of the CLHP and keeping the shorter back. I need to up-pot the flipped one tonight, the other will probably get topped, maybe even a manifold to slow it down more.

Thinking about The Stones. The clones are still lush and green after a week and it's not even a genetic I know I like. Cloning and re-cloning so I can flip an older plant seemed like a fun project - except for the cloning and re-cloning part :ROFLMAO: They get flipped too as soon as I figure out the rearrangement needed.

The Milk & Sugar looks like the best thing it can do is catch pollen from a tall plant. IF it's a girl. I topped it and I think that little plant has about three limbs stacked on each of the 4 sides. No more fan leaves and it's a hot mess.

I'm dropping the Thunderhole in a week so the males (and females) get a head start before the other main group of beans.

I just moved about 10 cubic yards of leaves off my yard and onto my future garden. Thinking and thinking while listening to tunes and playing with the battery powered leaf blower. Gor it mowed and some cover crop seeds spread, then I got some rain, now I'm getting a freeze this weekend so I put a blanket over everything.

I have no clue why I despise cloning, but a lot has to do with the length of time they can hang on before complete failure. If a bean's a dud you know in 3-5 days.

So I am re-evaluating the main reason for my cloning. The Chem's. I have money to drop on more S1's but I hate sending cash. There are no S1's I can find in the regular seedbanks that carry CSI Humbolt gear and take a card - but the strain is not going away. I have so much fire to grow out that has lots of Chem crosses in them from legit sources that I probably haveit in the fridge already.

I am going to smoke a big fat Chem91 joint after lights on and make some decisions. My goal for chucking is for it not to be a hassle, and to just be making more seeds of a cross I already have. If I was serious about it I would clone and reverse the chem's I have going. But they might not be "the cut". If I can get into the "drop a pack" mode and just enjoying the good plants I'll be much happier, then if there are those that I know I want to hunt through letting a pack go and pollinate doesn't need to be a big fucking production.

My lights come on 'earlier' now... my plants don't do D.S.T.

Something for new growers to think about when setting up light times. If I had them coming on at 6pm and off at 6am, then the time bumps up an hour then 7pm and 7am aren't that bad as far as being able to get in the tents a little before lights out in the morning. If you have it set at 6's and the time drops back you would have to be up before 5am??? Sorry, nope. I frequently am up then but I don't want it to be my "schedule, or to not be able to check them most mornings.

Or you could have everything automated and sleep until noon...

I changed my lights to coincide with the ridiculous and archaic DST, I jut made sure they got an extra hour of dark vs an extra hour of light. Funnily enough, I’m on a 6pm to 6am lights on schedule!

Tonight I took a shower and got all cleaned up so I can sift soil inside :ROFLMAO: Not bringing in any mites or molds or anything. Everythjing is on cruise control except the just flipped and veg. so I'm looking at the pics and figgering shit out.

The last Step Child is still androgenous but showing a few little nubs. I'm thinking it's a freebie-5-pack-2-duds-and-a-sausage-fest waste of my fucking time. Now I have another 5-pack, and a 5-pack of their Sour Hebrew National. Be a while before I drop those...
we can have some more - nature is a whore
The CLHP I flipped this morning is getting a 5g pot and I have enough soil for about 4 pots ready to go. The smaller of the CLHP is going to get topped but not clones. That and the Milk & Sugar are getting flipped with the Thunderhole. I'm thinking about a week of 18/6 from getting them wet will be beneficial to get everything up and growing normal before flipping. Maybe even dial the lights back gradually and go beyond 12/12 to make sure they flip quick.

I'm flipping the 4 Stones. I had two separate plant structures split between the 4 plants before I topped them, so it's either two pheno's or 2 males and 2 females split 50/50.

The

The ChemD is a beautiful plant and I may just keep vegging her. I have a few 15g pots and I think just getting a fat harvest is gonna be my style with the occasional "known fire". I don't have any more and if I want more I can buy more. The debate is whether to try and keep it separate from pollen while in flower and count a few beans as gifts, but risk full seeding - or keep it in veg and have a ginormous plant in a 6-8 weeks after everything is cleaned up from the chuck.

 The Chem91 is my baby. I didn't prefer the smoke from the D but both are killer. It is performing slow and perfectly for being held in slow veg until after the chuck. I still have a few up-pots available on it. The D is already in a 3g.

I have the two clones of the ChemD already taken and the 4 Stones, if they grow they grow.

PART 1...

I'm retired. If I didn't have the garden I'd be in a nuthouse. I'm still a fairly young man to not have a full-time. I've always been a morning person but 4:30 is a little extreme :)

As far as the sleep I prefer naps whenever I feel like it for as long as they take. 😜
till the chem strains kick in, i feel like i should be @it they tell me they do'nt do ankels or elbows, i still do good underwater, guess i could go back to recovery/boats ,cars naaa. uw metal ditector ,go to the rock beach come spring ,boat anchors on the steep rock ledge, ankel/neckchains ,rings and such as the odd lure plenty of lead for reloading the black powder rifle...retired!the go fishing!

Re-evaluating and now there's plan B.

The CLHP: The taller one has been flipped and is on a place-holder shelf for a 5g pot in a pretty full tent. Up pot it as planned, the smaller one gets topped and slow vegged.
IMG_3001.JPG
The ChemD gets a big pot and a flip. I need to make room - or do I... This is in a 3g pot.
IMG_3002.JPG
The Chemdog has a nice top for cloning now, and was initially the only plant I wanted to mom. It's going to slow veg until after the pollen and then get a yuuuuuuuge pot. Since it needs topped I'm cloning that, but the pot it's in now is fine.
IMG_3003.JPG
So with the Yellow plants all neediong to be in veg, the orange ChemD needing a 7g pot minimum, and the 4 stones needing flipped, along with the Step Child that still hasn't shown, the closet will be going 12/12 and my first order of business needs to me making room in the clone tent or firing up the mini tent - or both.

Pulled some bullshit herbs and flowers out into window-sill-land. No more fake light for you! Thrive, survive or die - none is important.

I set up the mini tent for the clones. two domes and one with more air added because two of the Stones have roots to the side of the cup. Pic later.

The Purplle Heart manifold, small CLHP, M&S, and the Chemdog are all in the 100w 3x3.

With that done all I need to do is up-pot two, pull some timer pins, then take pics.

The ChemD is now a 12-top. I had enough soil for at least two 5g pots. This already had a short 3g of soil in the rootball and took most of that to fill a 7g pot. There was not enough left over to up-pot the CLHP plant into a 5g...
IMG_3007.JPG
I moved stuff around to fill this tent and I have room in the other for the CLHP - when I get to it - but it's in the closet for noww with the Stones flipped.
IMG_3009.JPG
So now I need to sift more soil, luckily I put the ammendments in it as I dumped the pots. Sifting it should be all it needs except a little fresh peat to replace some of the pot-castings. The previous method of sifting it three times is a repetitive pain in the ass but works well.

I use 1/2" for roots which go to the worm bin. 1/4" for rocks, sticks etc. and 1/8" to separate the rice hulls from the castings. With the stuff separated I can mix it back in the right proportion so it's not too heavy/dense with castings. I might even replace those castings with fresh from the worm bin castings. But I need to either do a pot-worth to get the CLHP done tonight, or say fuck it and take all day sifting it tomorrow and do it tomorrow night.

Doing or not doing the sifting tonight/this morning has nothing to do with the time. Just whether or not I feel like it now. Best thing to do is take a fat bongrip out of your new daily driver and do some product reviews. I got tired of the disposable bongs from GRAV... I had one of the nice new globes that was about $100. Lifting the slide out and I dropped it from a height of about 3" above the bong - thin ass mouthpiece shattered. Looks like a bong you'ld give your worst enemy to smoke mids out of.

Discount code from the Growcast and finding the best no-frills model and I got this gem from ThickAssGlass The extra slides are all thick too. Should have dumped it or got a better angle but it's a perc rig, and cost about the same as the mids from Grav. Heavy as fuck. This is a table piece. The nug-smasher miniwith the removable handle takes up no space and is perfect for any squishing I'll ever need to do.
IMG_3010.JPG
Then I remembered picking up that terp-slurper from Grav - with the warning don't get it too hot etc. It works well - again for my smalltime dabbing needs. For you old guys like me, you just heat the tip, then touch it to the edge of the concentrate while it's still in the jar. Comes with a little glass cup-thing that is probably designed for you to bust your straw on so you buy another... but it holds the silicone inserts just fine.

The inserts are in the cheap-ass concentrate continers that are just medium density plastic (breakable plastic) but with a food grade silicone insert - in a 50pk from alibaba. The lighters are Vector lighters and well worth their investment, especially if your old fingers hate flicking a bic. $25-$35 per lighter but they work like a charm. One is a single-flame mini torch, the other a regular lighter. The blue silicone catch trays caught my eye in the toddlers section of the box store. Heavy thick silicone plates and bowls for kids LOL

Oh - and the grape seed oil. Every time you clean the bong with iso put a drop of oil in the first fresh bong water. You can smoke through it, no flavor. But it makes the glass easy to rinse for the next dozen times until you need iso again. I hate a dirty bong so I'll rinse it after each session. Noe the iso is only once a week or so.
