Looks like a well stocked store. I am having a hard time in my state with the hydro stores. They are getting fewer and fewer. My state has medical but no home cultivation yet. The stores just can not compete with Amazon. I have seen 2 different one's close up in the last year. Both cited Amazon as a big problem. People walk in a store and say i can get that a lot cheaper online. I think the only thing they can compete with would be the bag soil because of shipping weight. Maybe it will change if they start to allow home cultivation but not sure of that. I guess brick and mortar will be a thing of the past before long.
I have to agree with you...I usually only buy soil at his store and maybe a few things here and there but when it comes to tents and lights ..I would buy those online ,,I also get the friend discount which helps
He seems to be doing well though. He’s opening another store this weekend

Like i said maybe here if they ever allow home cultivation. Seems like it was not to long ago that a trip to the hydro store could be risky from both cops and thieves.

I can't speak to today's world but I owned/ran a hydro store 15 years ago and the Net/online pricing was already an issue then...just as you described. Folks would print shit out...walk in...and basically get pissed if you wouldn't/couldn't match the price. I did..on occasion...if they were frequent flyers...but most folks were hit and run customers...buying a bottle of this..bitching I didn't have that (the latest thing hyped in High Times)....so I just told em I couldn't do it and pay the bills and if that was a problem for them..."so sorry". As far as bag soils and some other mediums...they are loss leaders in the hydro world. The kinda shit you >have to< stock to be called a store/be there for most folks.....who...hopefully...will buy other stuff while in the store that you actually make a bit of profit off of. Like I say...dunno how it is now (Main... Your friend would know) but then bags of FFOF would cost me $10....then I'd have to pay the shipping on it....and even buying 66 bag pallets there'd be a $3-4-5 dollar a bag ship cost on it depending on who would pick up the shipping order. Then..fuckin A....it takes up a damn lot of rented space @ $22 a ft or "X" $$ per month" or whatever folks are paying for rental space. Oh...and the aching back of unloading all that shit...LOL. You had to order 5K of shit to get free shipping on your other stuff to absorb the cost of shipping the soils/hydroton/coco/promix/etc...etc...etc. So even at $20 a bag...those cats aren't makin shit on soils/etc. When i was in it...the GH "Micro" series had the best markup at 40%. From there it was all downhill....and "costs" would eat it up so fast it was insane....

I learned a lot doing it....but after 4 years of 6-7 days a week and not taking a solid wage....I closed shop and used most of the leftover inventory to set up a kick a$$ grow $pace.....LOL......and righted that wrong but good.

I can get a bag o black gold potting soil delivered to my door for the price of a driving 40 miles to Menards to get a bale of promix, albeit half the amount. Wal Mart nor Lowes in my town have nothing comparable, everything has food or ferts in it, I don't like anything in my mix.

Just finished my last 12 hour shift until the start June..
Been ages since I got to take time off.
Headed off for a few days of hardcore cliff fishing for mackerel and snapper, fingers crossed for some cobia and a few dives for some crayfish.

Absolutley enjoying a few beers and a fat joint right now and going to love not having to wake up to an alarm tomorrow

I'm SOOOOO glad I'm out of that biz now. (hydro shop) Everything changed. At one point corps like Hydrofarm would protect you with a sizeable area where they wouldn't allow any other stores to come in/force you out/saturate a market....but now....wow....they sell the shit in the hardware store and Ranch stores here....so the "hydro" shop takes it up the ass, for sure. The only saving grace is that it isn't that same, scary gig it was in the old days to go to a shop here. Nobody cares anymore what yer doin here....and lotsa folks are growing...so paranoia doesn't play hugely into things as it used to do. I spent as much time in the old days on security and getting rid of spoils/trying to stay "stealth" etc as I did growing...

It was a dirty day here. Tore apart about 1/2 of the 12 --- 30 gallon smart pots from last Summer's outdoor and set up the 7 gallon transplant smart pots I am giving a go this season with soil from those planters. Then I spent 3 hours digging out the head of a driveway (by hand) that hasn't been used in 30 years that had a bunch of sluff on one side...making it crazy unlevel. One of my college buddies is heading this way with a new camper rig so were gonna start setting up a spot for him/others by the creek. He sold his house today (in one day) so I fear he may be here for a bit...LOL... I'ma make him dig and shit and work his ass good...LOL. No free rides here...though you do get all the dope/hash you can smoke if yer worthy....

And that really sucks about the brick and mortars. I'm a big supporter of local business, if I can source it locally I'd rather do that route imho.
I love my mom and pop store where i can ask the owner all about the diff shit etc and he knows about it. That and i love the instant gratification part. Lol.
Could not agree more @Jesse. I guess the new generation will get all of there info and needs from AI apps etc.
