Who’s up for a new 2021 contest? Brainstorming thread

I like the idea of uniform contain size. 1,2, and 3 gals.

I stay away from Solo cups as an organic grower.

Id support restricted veg time, to get a more level playing field, allow for a smaller plant, and possibly more contests per year.

Id be on board with this. Both size and/or 12/12 from seed.
Ya I’ve never done a 12/12 from seed or 1 gallon so it sounds good to me I was thinking maybe your allowed to trim lowers and what not just not allowed to actually top it or do any training idk just an idea

One thing I liked in a previous contest was a longer starting period. Shit happens, and having a 24 hour window that might not match their schedule keeps some people out. Having a week added some 'there's still time to enter!" and stuff like that to get more people playing.

Im not opposed to this. If we did a start date of January 12th, it would put it would put us 14 weeks out from 04/20/2021, which is a pretty common start date. Conversely the 19th would be 13 weeks out.

Dry seed to ground. No "transplants. 12/12 photo period plants only. 1/2 gallon. 1 gallon and 2 gallon. 2 reg seeds per container. 3 plants total
Seed to harvest in 80 <90 days.
Lets put some "grower skills" into this. "Plastic" or "Felt"? lol
Coco Coir and rockwool falls under hydro.
Need a contest for hydro also.

Agronomist,
All good ideas. But idk about running two comps, how does every one feel about a no holds bar grow off?

Any style you want, but a limited container size.
so rdwc wouldn’t really work if you had a Rez and pot bigger than the total container limit?

with a start and end date, container size, and starting from seed being the only real limitations?

winner chosen off a points system every one that contested picks their top 3 fav grows and then a final tally off of all those top 3s?

grow contests are always very strict with tons of regulations, who wants that🤷

Id like to see 1 or 2 gallon pots, and Id like some way to balance the impact of vessel size on soil vs. hydro.

Id like a start by date.

Id like a chop by date.

Id like this to be a from seed grow.

I am in favor of this being dry seed into final pot.

I am open to 12/12 from seed, but can go either way.

I am in favor of limited entries.

I am in favor of no picture edits other than cropping.

What are judging criteria? We doing any final yield numbers or anything? I am on board with the points based system.

In the end the contests seem to all come down to who can last the longest without fucking up one of the rules, then a popularity contest vote at the end. There is no honest way to judge anything but pics. The pic could inclued rulers and such, but anything with weights and scales are out. Too easy to fudge.

Not saying there's a better way, but unless we can all drag our plants into someones garage for the final vote it is what it is.

The more rules there are, the less entries there will be, and less of those entries that actually complete the competition.

How many were there at the end of the last one? I wasn't following along for most of it.

I agree with all you said, I guess I just had more hope that people could be relied upon to be honest round these parts regarding numbers.

I like the idea of having multiple takes on the "same" grow to analyze their differences and learn from them, so for me the more consistencies the more interesting, but clearly not at the cost of participation.

Im all on board for a grow your own photo of the quarter (Q1), what are the criteria? 1 gallon container and a start and finish date?
