Still amazes me how fast hydro can go south. I noticed some yellowing this weekend and knew a water/nute change was needed.

Well i had to get my 55 gal drum cleaned and refilled with ro water. Should've gotten on it right away but waited till yesterday. I have enough ro water now and am currently changing the whole system to flower nutes.

Anyway, these pictures are 2 days apart. Way worse in person but not that terrible.

It really is crazy how fast hydro responds. Negative and positive responses are usually within a few days.

I don't miss the rapid oh shit they were fine a few days ago problems lol. I do miss it's explosive growth and being able to fix a problem quickly.

I'm sure you're going to get some chunky buds still. Probably just won't be pretty.

🤞 They shouldn't yellow anymore until the next water change is needed. I'll just have to do it before they yellow, so probably 2-3 weeks from now. Then I'll pick off the yellow ones and no one would be the wiser if i didn't tell em. 😉

No doubt! I look at those big/main fan leaves and even secondary fan leaves as a nutrient stockpile that the plant can use any time theres not adequate nutrients in the root zone.

Usually it happens about week 5-6 of flower and is a potassium deficiency. This time week 2-3 and its a magnesium deficiency. A little potassium.
How big is your res and how often do you change/top it up?

I use big tubs so I can just do top ups to get through the whole cycle, then dump (on my lawn; why waste good nutes?) and make fresh for the next batch. I don't flush near the end of the run but I do let the nutrient strength tail off. I guess this mimics what happens naturally but I do it because it has given me the best results.

If you're having nutrient problems before the end of the run, maybe more res capacity would do the trick?

The system is right around 25gal. Most days i can add 2+ gal to top off. Obviously with nutes mixed in.

There's a point during a grow that ppm will start to climb and ph will start dropping. Once this starts happening I've yet to figure out what to add to fix it. The more nutes i add the higher the ppm goes. So i change water and the plants usually respond accordingly.

Now i have made a few runs without a rez change but i feel i didn't get the same yield as when changing the rez at least once to flower nutes. If i remember right, 2 rez changes worked best. One a week or two after flip and again week 5 or 6. Then i just add water to finish once ppm start climbing. Usually end with about 3-400 ppm.

So a bigger res would allow you to make fewer res changes. I use a 27 gallon tuffbox for each plant in my RDWC. I fill them to about 20 gallons each and because I use a waterfall system for aeration, mixing, churn and circulation I can let them get much lower than most before I need to do anything. That said, it can be wasteful.

If you're happy with your results, then it ain't broken! Otherwise, I'd suggest you change the nutes a week earlier than you have been.
