IMHO defoliation for no reason is boredom. I have plants almost ready to harvest that have some of their first leaves still growing. Some of the upper leaves were pruned away because they were shading other parts of the plant. For the most part - leave the leaves.

Conversely - more sprouts means more, smaller flowers. Pruning away sprouts early that you know you don't want to keep helps the keeper parts of the plant get more goodies for themselves.

I like fewer/fatter flowers. I don't get any more weight than if I grew a flat canopy of buds from the same plant, but I have little larf, and minimal time in trim-jail. Knowing what I want in the end makes it easier to know what I want to prune - like a bonsai tree. For my style, I continuously prune away lower shoots as the plant grows and I train it. Once a sprout shows its own nodes starting, it's gone. I do this until after I flip and see the first pistils, then prune nothing else.
The only things i thought about cutting off were a couple of leaves that are shading whole portions of the plant. Even with the side lighting I put in it is being a pain in the ass. Re-potted this morning though. About to post an update on it. I'll just leave it be. I've got better genetics to worry about at the moment. Got the veg closet set back up and seeds germinating away.

Shading is of little concern until the flowers start getting big. The plant gets and processes light. More leaves, more processing.

Whats the hieght on the light too? Looks little high. Its not a hps. Usually i run blurples 18inches in flower n buds get closer without burning. I would not have it more than 24 inches off your tops right now.
You really dont have anything blocked to defol right now. Another thing you could do is take your tops n tie them down some and out. That will allow light to everything. Itll all lift up towards the light in a day.
It was at 18 inches running a 300w viparspectra and a 120w crappy side light. I just re-potted into 5 gallon fabric pots and it put me at 12 inches. My husband set up a rig at the top of the tent to be able to adjust the lights if need be. So far no sign of light burn.

So today was the day of the re-pot. Glad i let her dry out. She came out of the pot nice and easy. Was starting to look a bit root bound so I'm glad I got her fixed up. Now she will have some room to spread. It was a bitch trying to get pictures of the root ball at all so i didn't get any once I got it broken apart but they still looked healthy. Nice and white. No bunched up muddy sections @H.A.F.
PS: Had to crop the tent picture. Said the file was too large to upload so it is edited in a sense.

Good ol' Thursday update: I did a bit of LST on my girl. After I topped her a while back the 2 new colas have grown about 6 inches on both sides so it was time to bend back a teensy bit. I think i did okay with it. Before i left for work I checked back on her and the bud sites were pointing up again. She doesn't seem to be having any reaction to the re-pot. I did put some rocks in the bottom of the pot to assist with drainage though.

My little plant still has what look like bud sites up too and a ball on the bottom. I snagged a couple of pics. No pistils yet on the bottom portion of the plant.

Sorry. No, the last pic looks male. I'm glad it's different plants.
I was gonna say my friend that looks to be a ball. Lmao. Also I'm team High Stress Training. Extreme defoliation at select points, not random sprees, root trimming and proper topping with bondage can lead to amazing results and plant focused strictly on bud formation come flower. That's just me though. Everyone finds their own road to the same place.

Here's the deal - if you want me to basically grow the plant for you, post pics and I'll approve or disapprove proposed pruning or LST. I can draw on pictures, show you what to do, etc.

Bonsai - You need to look at grows. Get a vision of what you want to grow. Make it happen. Wax-on Wax-off :)

If you want a scrog, a manifold, just topping and training, whatever - there are experts on here that can help. If you want to be the expert, trial and error is king. Figuring out "what the fuck!?!?" when stuff goes sideways is where learning happens. There's a fine line between learning from others mistakes, and having to make them on your own to understand them.

As you've noticed this is a finicky plant, but it's also a very resilient plant. Most of the time it will grow like a weed if you just let it LOL

There's also the part where you need to get smoke at the end :) We can get you there.

I think she logged on right about the time I decided that I definitely had no interest in growing seeds unless the postal system failed.

I figured as much. I should have been more clear when i posted. The bud sites and full plant are from my female. The random ball is my little trouble plant. I'd be really upset if my girl decided she wanted to gender swap on me. Then again I kind of tortured her in the beginning so i would deserve it.

Hey, you ever heard of lady balls? Lmao. I had asked about high stress training, Defoliation, and something else where you 90° snap the stem. For now I'm keeping it simple until harvest. First grow so I'm only fucking up what is necessary. Lol.
I was only stating the area of my comfortability in case it is ever needed 😜 saw a question on defoliation that was answered just thought I'd throw that out there. Food for thought.
Eventually i may need that expertise. I thought I may need to do it on my female but the LST seemed to expose more of the lower portion of the plant.
She just happened to be "the one" I latched onto from the "intro" thread so I was lurking from the start LOL
I needed at least one latcher. Thank God for that. Your help has saved my plants many times.

So i swung by my local garden center. I swear to god there is a whole aisle dedicated to growing pot in there even though we are an illegal state. Anyway, grabbed a few things while I was there. Including some gardening string! No more shoelaces I guess.

So I snagged some full plant pic of my little plant we think may be a dude. It has flowers coming up but the balls you can see in the loop are still very present and not getting any pistils. Aside from that, they look great.

I have also created my own soil mix. 32 quarts of a base organic soil with no fertilizer, 16 quarts of perlite, 12 quarts of vermiculite, and 16 quarts of peat moss. Thank God I had a giant container. My cat is a bit pissed as it used to house his food but he will get over it.

Here are some pics of the soil. I think i got the blend right. I can squeeze it into a somewhat solid form but if I poke it, it will fall apart. We shall see how it goes. My ingredients are in my previous post. If you have anything to add or critique, please feel free. That is why I am sharing it.
