Blumat Drip System

@macsnax any thoughts on if i do put a pump in the reservoir how often should i run it to keep the solution mixed good.
I'm running my circulation pump 24/7. If you think heat is an issue you might want to look into a cycle timer. As long as my res doesn't go over 80f, I don't worry about it with the hydrogaurd.

Okay i think it would be best to put one in there and i will run 24/7 . Heat from the pump should not be a issue. In the same room my cloning reservoir usually operates between 72-75 degrees.

Hey @macsnax i got every thing plumbed and put in a bucket for soaking when i get ready. It was super easy to set up as well. I think purchasing the red 8mm hose is well worth it. That stiff curled line they supply could be used but it would be a pain in the ass. Would not be bad to work with if the tube were in strait pieces. I got a good chuckle out of the flow regulator on top of the carrot. I could not get a sharpie to show up to good so i used white electric tape to mark the shut off position. Also never mind on the suggestion to use packing peanut cut to size for level indicator in the tube. I did not realize they were biodegradable/ Wound up using a clay pellet sprayed orange.

Alright, good deal man. That black line does suck, I think I'll upgrade what I have in the future so my system is more neat an tidy. Crazy idea putting numbers on those dials, idk? Lol. Did the packing peanut dissolve that quick on you?

Yep it turned to mush in a day or two. I don't know about numbers on the dial they would be small. I figured i could just write down rotations until i get things dialed in. Would you say one full rotation from off would be a good starting point. Mac do i need to wrap anything around the pump inside the reservoir to keep it from clogging up?

On the first go around, when the pots get to where they need fed. Then turn your drippers on to a slow drip, see where the pots are when they dripping turn off...... If you like it, leave the dials and see how they perform on the next cycle...... If not, small adjustments as you go...... That's how I would go about it if I were starting over again anyway.

And the pump sits in the res bare. I premix nutes and dump in. Tried pouring MC straight in and stirring in the res with the pump off, but the pump was always in the way, lol.

Just a PSA about Blumat BluSoak tape if anyone here is considering it for outdoors. I just took mine apart since it's Croptober. Not one single solitary carrot had water in it still. At some point I opened them all up wide ass open to keep up with out heat so that may have had something to do with it.

Part 2, I top dress with neem cake, crab shells, and rec/Bu's. In many spaces it buried my tape. It was fine but just discovered a spot where aggressive plant roots broke the stiches on the Blusoak and created a huge runaway leak. Just an FYI

Any of yous using these in coco. Are you just hand watering once en a wile to get some runoff? Just fired up a couple today.

I’ve run Tropf Blumats for quite awhile.. I’m going to add to this older thread so future researchers can find all the info in one place.

It is important to get the “Tropf” as just “Blumats” is a different thing altogether, I don’t believe I saw this within the thread.

I run a small elevated res fed by a large res via a cycle timer. The small res has an overflow similar to a flood and drain set up to keep the elevated res water level consistent, which keeps water pressure consistent... CONSISTENT PRESSURE IS KEY, I can not stress this enough.

My feeder res is supplied by a bulk res utilizing a float valve and a throttle bucket. Quick explanation, a small tall container(plastic cereal box) in which the float is installed with a small hole low on one side... probably no longer need because my newest elevated res drains excess water level very quick, but with a slow draining elevated res would allow the feeder res level to possibly overflow.

I use jacks hydro/calnit and generic Epsom salts in 3-2-1,it is critical that “NUTES FULLY DISSOLVE” The drip lines on the Tropf Blumats is very small and clean nutes help prevent clogs. I used to use Dutchmaster’s Zone and House and Garden drup clean.

I use 100% Canna Coco, you can add things like perlite for aeration but where you place the Tropf Blumat MUST HAVE SOLID CONTACT WITH THE MEDIUM. If you use perlite you need to keep it from contacting the carrot.

I’ll include more pictures later, right now the wife needs my help. Below is a picture of how I combat the occasional “run away” aka a Blumat that overruns it’s pot. It’s a dollar store plant tray filled with NAPA 8822 granular diatomaceous earth set inside an 18 quart dishpan. The roots grow down into the DE and the whole think kinda acts like a Hempy Bucket if the lower tray remains
