CloningTips And Tricks

In college I just put dipped cuttings in labeled styrofoam cups. I'd change the water few times but very high success. I dare you to just try a tub of shallow water with an air stone. Stupid easy. Roots happen.
some of the healthiest clones i've ever taken have been just thrown in a cup of water. it takes 2.5-4 weeks to show roots usually, but they're always still really green and perky when they root.

here are 3 i threw into a shotglass of water a few years ago and all 3 rooted within 4 weeks.

I got a 24 spot turbo cloner , bought stronger pump and long air stone , 10 days later roots on 6 of 8 , split rock wool cube and inserted , taped cube and put in dome under light, spray with light kelp . Other 2 I expect soon as I can see the cut has calloused. Pretty happy about it because I was a world class shitty cloner before. Much thanks for the tips along the way .

I posted in another thread about doing a side by side Clonex vs Root Tech. Going to take 30 Lemon Hashplant clones in 12 days and put 15 in each tray using the stated gels. Should have some results in 3 or 4 weeks.

Doing the Heisen/Hotwired method. Slice/dip in gel/place in rooter (no tweezers needed ;))/place in tray/spray/cover with dome. The loser has to do the walk of shame................yes naked :alien:

I'm a fan of Clonex over rootech or Olivia's. I also watched a video where one of the Grimm's gardeners would lightly peel some outer husk off the clone stems for a stripe of roots instead of just at cut end or node. That's worked well for me too.

Good luck!!

I retired my cloner for a minute as I have plenty of beans to pop.
20190325_153643.jpgThese cuts have been sitting in a ice cream bucket of tap water possibly longer than this thread has been going or before it was created...at least 2 weeks.
They were taken at 21 days into flower from a defoliation and pruning session.
They sat on an end table under a lamp with a lampshade on it.They never went limp.
Thus far only 2 have rooted.
This may not apply to those that need a certain amount of clones in a certain time. When all else fails.Take a few extra and toss'em in a cup of water under low light.Low maintenance back up.20190325_153643.jpg20190325_153604.jpg20190325_153614.jpg20190325_153631.jpg

Bag of perlite
Seed tray
Base tray.
1-2cm of water in base.
In winter I use a heated propagator base.

Nothing more than that. No misting, no dome, no moving parts.
95-100% success rate.
Really dry here in CO (which I love but that's another story). I do something similar.....

Basically still dip/stick with rapids....but ditch the 50 cell tray and fill the bottom tray with damp perlite. Snuggle the clones/plugs into the 1.5" deep damp perlite...dome....wait. Always get roots just bustin out of the plugs....nothing gets too wet or too dry. you can use a mat and speed it up a bit but you have to monitor em more. Otherwise...just sit em off to the side and in 10 days roots will be stickin out everywhere with most strains.

I'm still perfecting a technique but I always make sure I take more than needed. I always just leave the extras in a cup of ro water (mixed with some cheep iba rooting poweder from lowes) after putting the rest in rw. This weekend I was checking some water ph/ppm on other plants when I noticed yellow leaves on some cuttings that were left over.
Now I recently read an article about cloning and it said that when the leaves start dying that it sends a hormone to the stem to start making roots. Well low and behold that is exactly what they're doing.

That's an awesome idea, I think I might try that next

PICK YOUR OWN
Anyone try vermicuite as cloning medium?
I have 4 testers going on now. Small plastic cup. Some with RO water and some with RO and some worm tea. PH 5.8. On that note the verm. had no ph change when I rinsed some PHed water through it.
It seems to be quite airy. Little better than perlite think.
I like the idea of just a quick dunk to get the media off, and into hydroton.
I really like the RW for the cloning part. But don't like the fact it can get too wet once transferred into F+D. If I have success I will post up some picks.

Tried to get Root Tech at my Hydro store today and the owner said he dumped it cause it didn't sell. Can't find it anywhere in my area. Might have to buy online.

Tie your ladies down!

Top for a few main colas, then tie them down. I used safety pins on the sides of my fabric pots with some string. The plant will focus on lower branch growth, and give you tons of clones.

This works best for a Mom you want to keep taking clones from.

I keep it simple with a tray/dome, root tech, rapid rooters, heating mat with a thermometer, and mist the dome twice a day.I toss this setup in the corner of a tent without its own dedicated light and usually have roots in 8-12 days with a high success rate.

I found adding anything to the water besides just the water I will get soft stems and issues. Rapid start is the worse. That shit is terrible and will also rot the stem off a seedling in a heartbeat.
I use straight water and sometimes I'll make up a kelp vitamin spray and just foliar spray the top leaves till they root. Especially on woody stems that take a while to root.

looks like you don't need help cloning heisen. = ) one thing I can add is turning the riot's upside down. I think it makes em easier to deal with.

I like it, i've tried a lot of shit. and this is where ill stay unless something better comes out. that combo creates some nice thick, white, roots very fast. Biosis says colonization in 24hr and you can see it nice little fuzz starts to appear. ive saved plants with this combo. rinsed all the medium out (soil, coco, etc) down to the bare roots. made a slushy w/ myco and a little water, dip the roots in that, plant in new medium and water w/ biosis. with in a week the roots are very white and fill in the medium quickly. For the biosis you only need 1/8th a tsp per gallon. so that bag will last a long time

I usually don't like rooting cuttings in root riots, i like cloners since you can see if the cuts fully calloused. But i don't have a cloner right now. Haven't had one for like a year now cuz i gave it to a buddy to use while i was doing a bunch of seed runs and eventually just told him to keep it cuz i was gonna make one. I've been hella busy but one of these days pretty soon when i get some time im gonna diy one using the recipe hydrored gifted us. Anyway heres a cutting i took of gps cowboy cookies. Just dipped in aloe, put in the root riot and stuck in a tupperware bin lol. Roots in 7 days on this one. The other 2 phenos were 10 and 12 days. The 4th hasn't rooted yet at 14 days.20190422_231356.jpg
