Yeah lately I been going straight to the riot cubes. I soak sometimes too. Really for me it comes down to how much time I have and how many of a certain seed I have. That is what determines how much babying I do. End up with the same results either way most of the time.
Distilled water or peroxide is key, pathogens are the number 1 cause of seeds to rot in the shell or not germinate. If a seed pops the rest is on the grower.

That’s just too much imo lol. Nature doesn’t give any seed peroxide or any special care, if a seed doesn’t pop it just wasn’t meant to be, pop another lol
Seeds don't sprout in cups in nature either. Living soil has beneficial bacteria in the soil that balances the process so seeds can have a better chance to survive. My big tables where the soil water recitculates is a living ecosystem. You would shit if you saw how clean my water is in those totes , so much oxygen and beneficial microbes. I cut out all the shit that kills bacteria and went to 100 percent beneficial. Its like having an outdoor garden indoors. Crazy shit.

I get it, and I know we give them more care to insure they grow inside but still imo if the seed don’t grow it wasn’t meant to be.

I run a commercial greenhouse for annual plants and spring veggies. I grow 1000s of plants a season of all different varieties, in different media’s with different techniques from full organic to full hydro (DTW). At the end of the day I like to keep my personal plants in soil just for ease of care like the old saying goes
”it’s the cobblers kid that goes without shoes”

All sank, both contest-ers had nubs poking out. Don't know if having other junk in the pic is OK, but here's my nursery tent. 2HLG-65, a 4" in-line duct fan for an exhaust and a couple of muffin fans to move air. I have a heat mat on the outside of the tent under where the dome is 🤪
I'll only use that until they open up well

In addition to the 2 AC × Adub (contest), I had some other fems that I either haven't tried yet, or want more of.
GMO Cake , SD X AC , GG X DD, Lemon Tree S1IMG_3084.JPG
And since we're talking methods, I settled on this after trying lots of different methods. The cup has regulear soil for about 2/3, then the top layer is seed-starter soil that is much finer.

Clear cup split for drainage. Easy to check moisture content and roots. Opens like a clamshell for easy re-pot. Dark cup, no holes for the outside.
Don't need drainage yet, but when they do get soaked you can stick a rock or something in the bottom of the cup to raise the clear one.

For the last several years I've had a 90+% germination rate going straight to soil, about the same as using the other methods. Hoping to see some stems peeking in about 3 - 5 days.
I labeled the cups 32-1 thru 32-8. 1 the largest seed down to 8 the smallest.
The tomato plants are Rutgers from Burpee. Some will go outside some will stay inside.
Happy growing!
