Snapped a stem, chances of survival?

I know these kinda depend on how much stem tissue is still holding on, but It’s been about 2 days and I don’t know what to think on this one. Snapped the same branch in two different places



Looking closely, her large fan leaf is still quite turgid but the smaller leaves have gone limp. Should I just wait it out? Worst case, I accidentally Topped my plant again.

I would be surprised if they don't snap back within 24 hrs. I use the 2" blue tape from 3m and loosely wrap it around the stem where i am going break it over. Never have any trouble from them. I figure that blue tape will split and give a little when that knuckle swells up.

Yeah it’s been over 24 hours for this guy and it’s not looking good, I almost completely snapped it off on accident. Didn’t pinch it enough. I used the aluminum tape because it’s sturdy and very sticky. I won’t be super cropping again until my tool comes in.

They make a tool for that? Not sure I’d trust anything but my fingers to do it.

I snapped my wedding cake mom off right above the first node. Only hanging by a skin. Taped it up like that and she was good as new a week later. Like it never happened. These plants wanna live.

I’ve had stem completely break with nothing attached and quickly taped it back up. Definitely doesn’t work every time it’s like throwing your finger on ice after you severed it and rippin to the hospital. There’s a chance

Hmmmm, I think you could fashion these yourself with some needle nose pliers and some tape.......

I usually gob some raw aloe vera gel or ale vera mixed with diatomaceous earth, over the wound. Then tape.
I say give it another day if you hav3nt topped.

I once thought that too. Here I sit lol I’ll post a vid of my results with it. Seems like it works really well.

I have taped a few and they have all come back. That stem tends to be tough as steel later too.

And ive use gorilla tape, electrical tape, masking tape. They all do the job

tin foil tape is sticky so that is probably great for it.

Looks like the branch isn’t shriveling It should be good to go. How long has it been since u snapped her from the pic above?

Hahaha...I like the idea of the aloe and DE..=..silica...to help it heal...have to try that Oreguhnism...
Good rule for super cropping...water that bitch the day before you super crop...it makes the branches very squishy and pliable...best thing you can do is pinch up about 1-2" of the branch you want to pinch and bend over...break up those fibers...then take a pen or pencil, bamboo stake etc and use that as a solid object to push your thumb against...I generally pinch about an inch of flattened stem and then stake it into the position I desire...it gets a huge knuckle at that point and just a day or two to recover....no tape....
You should be good in a day more or so DET PDX...as long as it is not clearly dying...it's working to repair itself.

Teflon tape works well too. I use a sharpie behind the stem and press with thumb. Sometimes it still breaks but it'll survive.

I am going to use teflon tape next time. It is a great idea.

I figured if it can be used for my drinking water it's good enough for my plants lol. It's not sticky but does hold really well so that's a plus. No more leaves getting stuck while trying to tape branches lol.

I usually tie mine off on what i have to work with. Maybe there is something in existence or easily made out of wire or some other material. It would be nice to rig something that would hold the branch at a 90 degree angle going from the main stem to the broken branch.Any thoughts?

I’m thinking of using small customizable tomato cages. Then you could attach bendy pipe cleaners at will to hold down branches. Might eliminate super cropping altogether for the first half of the grow.
