I'd be worried with several sitting in the same tray. One plant goes bad with some pathogen and several get it. Just thinking about all the new plant death syndromes that keep cropping up.
There's really no way around that. The trough beneath the little ledges that they stand on is pretty deep and I running drain to waste. I just try to keep the water sterile. Do you suggest I use dozens of tiny saucers?

Everything I grow is from seed, so I'm not really too worried about bring some outside virus in. Maybe they can be carried through seed? I don't know. They've been wilted a few times and had to deal with a hellacious thrip invasion, but they're still going. I'm just trying to maintain a healthy environment and hope for the best.

I'm newer than you to the mom thing. Just something I noticed offhand based on what I read. I don't know 'bout rockwool at all.

Good looking out. I used to keep three or four normal sized mothers in a 2x2 flood tray. They were all interwoven, but I never had any issues. The longest I've kept a mom was a little over 3 years I think.

Bob Hemphill (The Librarian) said he takes a new clone every month or two and shitcans the moms. I think that might be excessive, but it would keep it small and new and healthy. I am leaning towards something like that instead of keeping one plant around since it's just preservation and not production. Then when you need smoke you just toss the old mom in flower instead of shitcanning it.

I am treating it like up-potting. I wouldn't be leaving any plant in the same pot forever, so when it looks like it needs a new pot that would be time to start cloning.

They never get big enough to need to be up-potted. I have sawed rootballs in half and down-potted before. That was in coco though. I've also taken clones for new mothers when the old ones were unmanageable or looking like they were headed south. My OG Kush went for about 2 years and its cloned second generation mom when for another 2 before I flowered it out.

The thing about rockwool is it's non biodegradable. As long as I don't smash the cubes too much they should be fine. Some people have kept mothers for decades.

I know nothing about soil. I like lurking those grows. Organics is especially interesting to me from a chemistry perspective. I have no desire to grow in soil, but it's cool circle of life shit.

I've hardly use facebook anymore since I started interacting on grow forums. Way less drama, and that's saying something.
I avoid Facebook like the plague. I went on it for the first time in months the other day and only because I wanted to invite people to a cookout we are having. I hated every minute of it but it seems like it's the only way people schedule get togethers anymore.

Could one of you delete that comment? It was very shocking when I first saw it, but now it's just sad. I hope that dude gets help and doesn't hurt anyone. I have no idea what he's up to now.
