My second at-bat.

I have a little action going on in the flower tent, too. I initially intended to attempt to produce some fem seeds from each of the three strains. I’ve since decided that that was a little too ambitious (code word for dumb) for a noob. Sooo, I’ve made an executive decision to cull these two plants. They’ve both been sprayed with colloidal silver and have nanners on them.

One’s a Blue Dream and the other is a MK Ultra.
I’m keeping (at least for now) the GG4 that’s been sprayed. And to that end, I’ve put it in a 2x4 tent with another GG4. I’m going to try to pollinate the other. I’ve plucked some nanners from it and I’m drying them now. 36DEA486-221B-446C-B637-67E25C8BE6E6.jpegB14B20DC-A5D8-4116-8854-129D3F56A853.jpegAF8087FA-C868-4061-B146-3C490C2B88BC.jpeg

The end of week 3 in the flower tent (day 21). Down to 5 plants. Inside the circle are 2 MK Ultra, and the other 3 are Blue Dream.

I super cropped the two tallest branches of this BD a couple weeks ago, and I swear they were back in the light within 24 hrs. So the next go-around I did the 7 tallest tops. That was a little too much, I’m afraid. The buds turned and faced the light, but the didn’t quite get back in the game. So yesterday, I gave them a little help.

The Blue Dream are stacking up nicely.

My fingers got a little sticky staking that plant. The frost man has stopped by apparently.

I’ve learned a lot on this first grow, mostly the hard way. My goal for my second grow is to have over half of the plants finish.

Only idiots use the 700 scale. 🤣😂🤣 Seriously though, 500 is the standard.

People who use the 700 scale do it to be "different" or "special". More like a pain the the ass. 🤣😂🤣
Tell that to Botanicare.

That's why I think EC is better; there's no uncertainty.

The use case for PPM scales is when you're dealing with one specific nutrient such as nitrogen or calcium. That's not the case with agronomy, because we're dealing with a mixture of materials designed to feed plants, not chemical processes.

PPM makes perfect sense when discussing carbon dioxide because we're dealing with just one chemical and not a mixture.

No doubt, but ppm is a little more "specific" and an easier number to remember when growing in hydro. I just know that if someone is using 700 scale they're not for me. Lol

I've often wondered about single nutrient ec meters in reservoirs for rdwc systems. It seems like at some point i stumbled across something of that nature but they were super expensive. Only large commercial vegetable growers, doing hydro in greenhouses, where using them. That's if i remember right.

PPM is not more specific. It IS more confusing and the cannabis nutrients industry has used it to deliberately confuse the uneducated for profit for years.

They are one in the same. On the 500 scale you just move the decimal around. Just depends on the meter how accurate the numbers on the readout are. I should have put " " around more accurate.

I only say ppm is easier with hydro because you're already dealing with one number with a decimal in it. Makes it easy to not get them confused in your head and while explaining to new growers. Maybe I'm just a dummy but it helped me when i started.

I'm not sure ppm alone has been used to deceive people. It's just a unit of measure. Ppm vs ec, Lb vs kg, ect.

When different nutrient makers use different scales, it's deliberately confusing.

And EC can be as accurate as you have instruments for; EC 1.23456....

Again, PPM is meant for measuring one nutrient at a time. Look at the name; "Parts Per Million". How is it arrived at? Each chemical has its own unique EC per unit of volume when dissolved in water. That's what the different PPM scales REALLY measure. When you stick your TDS (Total Dissolved Solid) meter in your res, you are measuring the combined EC of everything in there so PPM is just the wrong tool for the job.

My GF, the one who works as a production manager in a hemp products manufacturing facility, has her degree in geochemical engineering. I asked her about this and she agrees with me on this point, for all the reasons I've explained.

Is PPM "WRONG"? Strictly speaking, no. But it is confusing and misleading, in the same way that hydro stores never talk about acids and bases; they only talk about "pH down" and "pH up" and they do this deliberately to keep people confused and dependent on their bullshit instead of actually learning about the topic in any useful way. Don't be a hydro store sucker; use the proper chemistry terms, use the proper chemistry instruments and discuss what they tell you using the most appropriate scales.

I use whatever is most convenient for the audience I'm talking to. No sense it talking over people's heads, especially to new growers. They don't care about chemistry or proper terms. They just wanna grow their own smoke.

Ph 5.97 Ppm 600
Vs
Ph 5.97 ec 1.2

Idk ppm is easier in my head for what i do. So..... that's what i peach. You'll never convert me! 🤣😂🤣

To each their own.

That said, anyone know knows about cars will peg you for a noob if you pronounce Porsche as if it rhymes with gorsh- as in, "Gorsh, Mickey, I didn't know Minnie Mouse was YOUR girlfriend!"

And what's wrong with teaching people the right stuff from jump so they don't end up handicapped by incomplete or inaccurate information later? I HAVE to say that, or 15 generations of teachers and professors in my ancestry will roll over in their grave and start haunting me!

I say Porsche like a hillbilly. I think if you pronounce it like you're French, you're a fag. 🤣😂🤣😂 Each to their own though.

Fyi: I've been a car nut since i can remember, even worked as a dealer mechanic for about 15 yrs. Guess I'm just a noob in your world. 🤣😂

I've been up to my armpits in Oldsmobiles since I was in high school.

Porsche guys are fuckin snobs with more money than sense. But the point stands!

There's nothing quite like the sound of a well built Olds 455 at 6000rpm- sends tingles down my spine just thinking about it!

To be honest, I'm really looking forward to electric cars.

I wanted to put a 6 speed behind my big block but I could never put the money together. Probably a good thing because I might be dead! Lol

a few years ago my oldest boy bought a 74 chevy monza, cal.car with a 350,two barrel carb. before he got his current job, money got tight so i bailed him. out i nearly have all parts gathered up after market block, heads, crank, roller cam and lifters @about 8 and a half to 1 should allow for turbos, i've already taken care of the sub frame connectors, 6 speed gear box, just found a 9 inch ford rear end ,out of an old bronco still needs to have a few inches taken off of each end.this should be fun , the boys and me should be able to get the trans tunnel sliced and fitted, look out .the only place you could buy one of these cars was in californa. i'v had so called hot rodders tell me they ,never built them with a v8 ,the build sheet from the back seat has won me 50.00 bucks ,and one know it all shut his mouth after seeing this build sheet.the rascal told his buddies . knocked me out of some sure bets.lately he has been slowly upping the price ,not for sale is what my oldest keeps telling 'em. it will be nice to see the faces , when these guys try to take a bite out of this turd brown little chevy.the old novas and chevy two's will out weigh it by several hundred pounds.
