DNA sexing plants?

Have any of you send in seedling plant samples to find out the gender early on so you don't have to force clones to flower or wait until they show? If so, I'd like to know what kind of an experience you had, and some suggestions of places that do a good job of this would be nice. I was thinking about trying out Delta Leaf Labs for some regs I'm starting tonight because I really don't have the room or time to deal with waiting for female to show and I wound up shorting myself a plant last run from a male that showed later then the others. It would run me $110 to have 10 of their kits shipped to me.

I forget who I used but for a time I was testing some seeds for a breeder that were regs so I used a company 3 times and was quite satisfied they were always right. certainly saved time and space in tent.

Delta Leaf seems to be the most popular, along with Farmer Freeman, and there was another I've heard about but I can't recall the name. There have been some pretty harsh Delta Leaf reviews on Reddit lately but I never know who to believe there. For all I know the people complaining messed up their samples.

The company I used sent a small folding card that you put small pcs of leaf that were pulled with out touching using 10 small cards that fit in a folding card that was sent back. About 4 days after they receive you could get results. I grew one male out to test if accurate that was and all females were females. All told probably sent 30 samples all were accurate for females.

I'm going to give Delta Leaf Labs a try. I emailed them for some clarification and for $100 (plus $10 shipping) I will receive 10 tests (1 plant/test) and a pre-paid return label to send them back to be tested. They said that any tests that are inconclusive will be retested up to 8 times and, if they are still inconclusive they will send out replacement tests for free.

Sounds like about the same as mine was, 100 bucks 10 tests it was worth to me to not tie up 1/2 veg plant count on plants not to be grown.

Same here. I don't mind taking the time to figure them out sometimes, but I have both tents going so I just don't have the room to deal with it for this round. I'm wetting 12 seeds now, will plant the eight strongest looking ones, and then will have those tested and pick the 4 strongest females.

Still waiting on my results and will update once I get them. One thing I find a little frustrating is that you really are at the mercy of USPS for these tests. Even though the return label was a Priority label, I mailed my tests back to them on Monday, and they didn't receive them until last Friday afternoon, so I'm still waiting on my results and my plants are pretty much ready to get transplanted already....but I don't want to transplant them until I know which ones I need to cull first.

Only way I can see that kind of testing being viable for us is if they come up with a home test that's reliable. For breeders dropping hundreds or thousands of beans? not happening.

One thing I could see the genetic testing being good for is to find out "why" after the grow. These plants all looked the same, smelled the same, but #7 is fire and the rest aren't. Why? Looking for a specific marker that you could then look for in future generations would be valuable.

Got most of my results last night. Two of the 3 that show as "re-testing" pretty much line up with what I was expecting because those 2 plants had much smaller cotyledons that were starting to dry out. The last two "CTK" are known females that I sent in as a control to help myself verify their results.

That sucks that your mail service is so shitty TFC... I know nothing about home testing but watched a Vader podcast and he said for around a 3K investment and some decent DIY skills(which I know you have) you can test at home for around 10$ a pop.
Too rich for my blood but I know a few of you stonk enthusiast probably wipe your backside with that.

That's too rich for my blood, too, especially since it only cost me $10 a pop to have someone else do it. I won't do this often, because I mostly grow from fem seeds, but it's a decent option for when you don't have the time to wait for clones to flower.

Here's the question though. Now what?
You said they were ready to transplant. How long after that do you flip?

They have plenty of time before I flip...When I said they were ready to transplant I meant from 4" nursery pots to 1 gallons. These plants are only 17 days from sprouting today. So the males will get culled today, and the females will get transplanted.

Is there a strain DNA data base being built? So that any plant could be verified kinda thing?
Some shady bastards started one under the guise of free info for the public and gotr a lot of well known breeders to submit their genetics. Then that company went on a marketing spree trying to find a big-ag buyer for that info.

Now it is available, stalled as far as new info, and the dude and anything associated with him is now shunned ;)
