Say 4 bulbs compared to 4 strips bulbs.
4X 54w t5 5000k =115W
To 4 EB 5000k strips.
How many wats do you think one would need to run the EB to be equal?
Not for me I'm helping out potato tissue culture operation convert over.

I have for many years grown under both T5 and T8's(shop lights 4ft)

these days this is very dead tech..but often I do still use these lights (germing)

the deals either T5 or T8's is to make a DIY bank

of a minimum of 6 lights/tubes strapped together

and like me on counter weights to slide up and down with ease

a 4ft square house closet is ideal

one starts with the germing in solo? cups using just one tube of warm white

light color/ kelvin is vital you wanna make them stretch

keep the tube/s close to within an inch as the babes grow you include more tubes

so after 30 days you are running a mix of 4 cool whites to 3 warm whites (2700k)

and in 2.5-3usg/10-15 lter pots

to start flowering remove all the cool whites and replace with the standard office warm whites

gain keep them low to within a inch of the leaf tips

VIP: is to remove all foilage below 12 inches of the top most leaf..

this leaves ample room for ventilation and allow the plant to bush out top most

it also means you get a shit load of clones..something else to learn ...lol
---------------------------------------------------------------------------------------

the same above can be adapted to CFL's

by building an array of 7-17 cfls at 25w and again mix

up the colors 50/50 warm white to cool white

at flip, go 100% warm whites a lot more heat can be expected

and also the light is very localized ..good for a backup really

good luck

I run modified T8s in my veg/mother tent 2 bulb fixture with a 4 bulb ballast so they are close to double driven, they work great for clones and my bonsai moms but im wanting more for my veg plants they grow fine just not as much root as id like and the growth isnt as hardy as the plants ive vegged under my cob light, but it is apples and oranges there

Yes... I've heard much of the '2xBallast trick' have you been running them long

as they often say they shorten the life of the ballast too

often thought that it should work for CFL's also

got pics

cheers/

I should point out here:

I've recently replaced my 4ft(1.2m) flouro's with the same LED equalivient
instead of burning 33w per tube its now 18 watts (x6)
and with the plastic diffuser(screen) removed
for max Lu

thanks
