Honestly? I haven't done the math but that's an interesting concept. A 5gallon pot or a 3gallon pot make a big difference in ounces per plant, but you can fit more 3 gallons in and still get a respectable plant. Except screwing around with flower clones I don't flower in less than a three.

in my 40x40 tent I can fit about 9 plants unless they get huge. Last grow was mostly 3-gallons, and I averaged 2oz and change per plant. I had three plants in 5-gallons and they were all in the 3oz range. Jarred - final product.

So
9 plants in a little over a little over 12sqft ~18oz
3 plants in just under 9sqft (closet) ~9oz
Interesting! And I'm probably looking at the same average from the three plants in my closet now!

Oh, and all those were flipped 30 days from seed, with no manifolds or anything. Longer veg, training and pruning and an ounce/pot-gallon is easily doable.
