J. James Transition Tea Breakdown

I figured it was time to break down my Transition Teas as I like to call them.

We will start with the equipment I use:

1. 5 Gallon Bucket
2. BubbleSnake Aerator
3. 571 GPH Air Pump
4. Measuring Cups / Spoons
5. Paint Strainer (5 Gallon Bucket Size / 200 micron) Or A Mesh Kitchen Strainer
6. Thermometer

I can not stress how important it is to keep everything clean, As soon as you are done brewing you should soak your bubble snake in a 10% peroxide solution to kill any bacteria or you can contaminate future projects and really hurt your plants.

This is a Guide to temperature-related minimum brew times

Brew Temp/Brew Time

• 50(F) / 48 hrs
• 60(F) / 36 hrs
• 70(F) / 24 hrs
• 80(F) / 12 hrs

I brew all my teas for 24 - 36 hours and believe that is a perfect window for usage with living soil.

This is a 1-time use base tea for early veg before the plants are in their final pots.

I normally apply the #1 Early Veg Tea to plants that have been in 1-gallon pots for 2 weeks.

#1 Early Veg Tea:
3 gallons of RO water
1/2 Teaspoon Grow-Sil
1/2 Teaspoon TM-7
1 Teaspoon Elemental by Roots Organics
1 Tablespoon Thrive.N
1 Tablespoon Blackstrap Molasses
1 Tablespoon Terp Tea Grow by Roots Organics
2 Tablespoon Insect Frass
2 Cups Worm Castings

Brew for 24 hours and Strain, Use full strength as a root drench


The Breakdown ​

#1 Early Veg Tea:

3 gallons of RO water
We start with RO water to ensure we have complete control of the mineral and nutrient levels as we start our tea.


1/2 Teaspoon Grow-Sil (Silica)
1/2 Teaspoon TM-7 (Trace Minerals)
1 Teaspoon Elemental by Roots Organics (Calcium, and Magnesium)
We add back the Trace Minerals, Calcium, and Magnesium as well as Silica

1 Tablespoon Thrive.N
1 Tablespoon Blackstrap Molasses
Thrive.N is a Fish hydrolysate high in nitrogen and Molasses both act as food for the microbes inside the brew and the soil

1 Tablespoon Terp Tea Grow by Roots Organics (Micronized Bat Guano, Fish Bone Meal, Fish Meal, Langbeinite, Kieserite, Non-Gmo Soybean Meal, Feather Meal, Chicken Manure, Kelp Meal, Dolomite)
Added for nutrition supplement, Humic Acid, Beneficial Bacteria, and Beneficial Fungi

2 Tablespoon Insect Frass
Added for nutrition, beneficial microbes, and chitinase

2 Cups Worm Castings
Added for nutrition, bacteria, fungi, actinomycetes, and protozoa
