so if i was to cut away this side branch by my thumbbf of the main stalk it would make the main cola bigger? or just reduce yeid?

This stage of flower is about the latest I would prune to get them ready to finish, and take no main tops. That will reduce your yield. Taking that side branch should beef up the rest of the stem.

I would see how this one does and remember it for the next. I would also leave the fan leaves. They feed the plant. the more the better. Removing the light catchers might actually be part of the stretching problem.
