I haven't tried but I hear you can further purify the kief with static electricity, like a piece of parchment wrapped around a CD is supposed to attract the junk, but not the resin glands.

Uhmmmmm nope. Frenchy would spank you and say angry French words from the grave :ROFLMAO:
If you sift out the kief using a set of screens (or bubble bags for water hash), then you find the one grade that will melt with low heat and is oily like butter, IF one happens to exist for that plant harvested at that time - THEN you can make a temple ball LOL

I have made one so far, and lots of wads of hash :)
My apologies and RIP. I make BHO so all of this is foreign to me. I read a long temple ball thread awhile back and I still don't know exactly what one is, because everyone seems to have their own description.

I made mine by putting the kief in a piece of PTFE film, twisting it, warming it on a space heater, compressing it into a sphere, and repeating the process over and over until It was rock hard. It's the densest hashish I've ever seen, whatever it's called.

Frenchy used heat and pressure. Warm water in a bottle and cellophane rolling and folding etc. then finally rolling it into a ball. Lots of video's out there of him doing and teaching or just talking about it. The important part seemed to be the selection and refinement process of what to press more than how it was done.

He made it with bubble hash though right? I just read two articles that said a temple ball was what I consider finger hash, so now I'm even less sure of what one is. ha.

The cool thing about my little hashish ball is that it was made from all of the strains I grew within the time I had the grinder. I never touched the kief, so there was probably 20 different strains.

Charas were/are made by slowly rubbing fresh flowers that are close to harvest, between the palms of your hands, and then rolling the resin that comes off into a ball. Frenchies method is more of a refinement of traditional charas.

Yes. But after the bubble it is dried, then it's grated back to as close to kief as they can get to cure before they work it. Some people do freeze-drying too.
I think pure dry-sift kief is the top of the line depending on where it came from (bud vs leaf) but sifting and purifying it is not as easy as having multiple bags you can just rinse through.

If you get into that kind of thing, Subcool (the supersoil/Green Avengers dude) recommended to Frenchy that he take on an apprentice to truly learn the craft from him. Frenchy was working with Leo Stone at Aficionado and "Cherry Blossom Belle" was working as a farm hand - for her brother Leo...

Not to be a jerk, but I feel like there's some added mystics involved here when it's just kief + heat + pressure. I'm still not sure what a temple ball actually is. I'll listen to that podcast. I feel like I'm hijacking BK's journal by asking more questions.

Frenchy really just came up with a method that makes for a cleaner temple ball, IMO. His method removes virtually all of the leaf matter so the ball is pretty much 100% trichome heads with no other contaminants. This makes it a smoother smoke and it ages beautifully when you store it properly.

Last pics than I'm backing out. Here's the one I had that came out perfect-ish. It was mixed strains.
This is when I first worked it

and this is 4 months later when I pulled it out to check and smoke some. At room temperature it will flatten out like dough.

I’m just curious to know how many pounds of trimmings it took to make this cannon ball

About two harvests worth (6-8 plants) of trim, and a few jars of older flower that wasn't as fire as what was replacing it. I think I also saved some dry-sift leftovers to try and wring a little more out of it. ;)
