Culling

I have some plants that I re-vegged. There's a link in my signature block to my grow page if you are curious - has no bearing on the question 🤪 If you have to chop a plant mid-flower, at what point would it be worth it to hang it and hash it instead of trashing it?

I may have to chop several of 9 plants of the same strain, and it was a failed pheno hunt for a unicorn plant anyway.

There are literally no other considerations besides whether when I chop them anyway is it worth my time and effort to trim/dry/hash/decarb and make budder?

What kind of unicorn are ya looking for, just the regular ol’ plain jane unicorn or one that’s multicolored and shits rainbows and glitter?

I Grew @J.James Paradise Deisel testers and had one that finished in about 60 days with a respectable weight, and cured it smelled just like a fresh opened bag of Cheeto's. I have some awesome smelling diesel in the tent, much more gas than the first run, but not that one plant. And JJ said he never saw one either.

It was a for fun project anyway, because I never ran a tentfull of the same strain. But because of the reveg, I need the space for tester plants.

I can add fans and squeeze stuff together if there is a possibility of getting some semi-potent goodies, but if I need to wait until I start seeing ambers it ain't gonna happen. I'll just trash one at a time as needed until I get to that point.

Or make bubble hash with them as you culll. No drying required!
It's still a question of whether they have matured enough prior to cutting to make it worth the effort though. Is starting to see milky trichs enough? should there be a certain %? I guess that's the kind of info I was looking for.

I’ve seen how much you grow and if it’s just for personal, I’d just cull em to the compost bin and be done with it.

That being said, if there are any trichs, and you harvest them, they’ll get you high regardless of their color. You already know about the differences in the high from clear vs cloudy vs amber trichs.

Not really on the clear part. I try to get rid of those on regular harvests. I have just never culled fat buds that weren't anywhere near ready yet LOL

Clear trichs were found in a study to have the most thc. If you want a pure high high then clear is the way to go. However that said there is alot more to cannabis than thc so that milky is where it's at for me and most. Some like amber ? You can harvest clear and have pretty good smoke. Clear week 2 of flower is much different than clear week 7.

Do you have a link to that study?

It's old af and probably disproven to a point but at the very least it showed there are more than just precursors in the trichs when clear. Paul G Malhberg I think dudes name was. You can dig if you want its been a long day I'm not too worried about finding it

I was just pondering this idea with a buddy of mine, even if not enough to get you high, would the washed trichs be beneficial for salves balms oils or things like that people make for skin etc ( I know nothing of making those types of products)

If your seeing any milky its def worth harvesting. Even a 50 day plant with clear will make a good wash and edibles at the least.

That explains it better than some I've seen - much better than the "wait a week" afficianado's on forums LOL

As it pertains to the original question, I have 9 monster-ugly-fat-juicy plants that I am only keeping part of one of for smoke. There are already some ambers on the older growth- not much. All obviously have mature glands even if they are clear. Might be good to chop a few plants each week leaving the last one to go stupid amber.

For hashing fat buds, would you hang them to dry for a few days or freeze them immediately?

Fresh frozen freeze for 24-36 hours and run it through bags

I pulled the first one to play with today. Freezer space is at a preium, and I only have a little ice-maker, so I may set everything up to just cycle them through one at a time every few days.

Always reading. Good old article off Frenchy's site, and I am going to also age the stuff before messing with it. 3 months before pressing seems a lot- but whatever :)
