OK guys, I’m in the middle of a little debate with a YouTube “influencer” who is trying to say that you can flower a plant from seed a week into veg and it’ll “start flowering 48 hours after flip”. This is of course complete and utter bullshit. He then said this is how SOG rows are done. No. No they’re not. Every successful SOG setup I’ve seen or done was with clones coming from a sexually mature mother plant. I remember seeing @Heisenbeans post a video explaining this too and I could also be wrong or becoming senile. I don’t know. So, if anyone here has pulled off a one week from seed veg, with a successful run after, I’d like to know how they did it and I will definitely eat my words with humility.

Not sure myself but I have heard of the concept of going straight into 12/12 ... never really tried it or know of anyone personally who has but I am going to put some seeds in water tonight and pop them snd put them directly into 12/12 flower room - will post experiments results here !

@Opie1 Does a lot of grows 12/12 from seed but, if I remember correctly, They still veg for at least 2 - 3 weeks before they start to flower. Some strains are faster to flip then others.

I was taught that a seedling is a seedling until the cotyledons fall off 1 - 2 weeks after the seed sprouts. When they fall off or turn yellow and dry out the plant is in Veg. If the guy is saying 3 weeks from seed or one week into veg then yes, plants will flower at that point

I tried 12/12 from seed for a solo-cup competition (trying to keep them small) and it still took a month for them to actually start showing sex.

Hes retarded. Plants from seed will only flower when sexually mature. Sea of greens are only done with clones. Impossible from seed as every plant will be all shape and size. A SOG in seed form is just a big ass pheno hunt.
You can flip a plant from seed but it will not fully flower till ready. All 12 12 does is slow it down to keep in stacked vertical

This is the 39 out of 42 reg seeds started a couple or few weeks ago.

I read somewhere that once a cannabis plant has 5 sets of leaves, it should be sexually mature, so once all these plants are at five full sets of leaves, working on six and seven, they’ll get flipped.

Once they show sex, the males will be culled and the females will be up-potted to one gallons, with a max of 21 plants.

I expect they will finish out at about only a foot tall.

Nice! Might be boredom, but I shove mine in the one gallons sooner. I think they get a little more size to them before flip. Pot size will definitely affect plant size.

I have heard/read/bro-scienced that once the newer nodes start staggering instead of opposing pairs it is the sign of maturity. It's usually around when they pop that 5th or 6th set of leaves - but different per strain/plant. I just stick with a month, or 5 weeks if they are really slow.

I agree they would do better up-potted sooner, I just don’t have the room.

I’d leave them in these tiny pots, except I don’t want to have to water twice a day.

If this works out OK, I may look for some half gallon pots or something in between what I’ve got now for future runs.

I use half gallon bags, cheap, easy to keep on dry side of watering for in between. Then to the one gallons. But I been having good luck with the solo cups, then to the one gallons lately

from seed the plants won’t start flowering till they are fully mature. (Shows signs of pre flowers and starts growing non a symmetrical). So even if you set the light to 12/12 they will be behind all the clones that are already mature and start to flip as soon as the lights are flipped to 12/12 He’s probabaly just adding weeks on the back end and not giving enough hours of light in the beginning for maximum growth and therefore all strains take longer to finish for him and take longer to start forming bugs at least the plants he starts from seed. I had that happen to me and I believe Heisen and a few others tought me the ropes

Alternating internodes is a sign of maturity.
I think that youtuber was thinking about 48 hrs of dark and they will start flowering.

Sorry, I was answering both (you and the OP) in the same post.
Alternating internodes"is" the sign of maturity. 5th, 6th, 7th nodes makes no difference.
If a person wants to go straight from seed to 12/12, NL#5 is one of the best to do this with.

Sativas I would think would be good to do this with or any strains that stretch after flip
NL #5 "matures" fast,(alternating nodes) plus it is a fast flowering breed with huge colas. Yet, it's still a "photo-period" plant. Around 8 weeks.
12/12 from seed is about the only way to grow some pure sativas, because of 14-16 week+ flowering periods. Those "equator"origins. lol
